Friendly Debates With The Danielle’s!
Wanna Play? There will be a question each week that will require you to decide where you stand regarding that topic, then of course share those thoughts with the world! Find the rules over at Happening’s of the Harper Household! THIS WEEKS TOPICTweens (or teens) Shopping at Victoria’s Secret? Yay or Nay?What do YOU say? MY OPINION?Nay.
I do not believe tweens or young teens should be allowed to shop at Victoria’s Secret. Not even with a parent.
Victoria’s Secret promotes sexiness. Plain and simple. A young girl does not have any reason to be or act sexy or feel.
There are things like pajamas at VS that are not necessarily ‘sexy’ but you still need to go into the store or online to shop so you still see the sexuality which is not necessary for a young girl.
I can see [possibly] a 17 year old who has her own job, purchasing from VS on her own. But anything younger, no. And really, what mother would be okay with bringing her young daughter into a VS and allowing her to purchase sexy undies? I just can not see that happening.
My older daughter is 13 and will be 14 in November and I just can not see her in sexy lingerie. No way. I would not let her shop in VS. It’s hard for me to imagine my step-daughter shopping in VS although she is 19 and obviously old enough to make her own decisions. Just weird though.
Oh and that photo above is a pajama set at VS. You can find the same type of outfit at other stores, so why the need to even go into a VS is beyond me. See these other pajama pants on the right? Those are from Kohl’s. Now why can’t our young girls purchase these things at stores other than VS? This way, there is not even a need to go into a VS.
And any kind of lingerie (bras, panties) are just an absolute no. Absolutely not. There is no reason for a young girl to need sexy bras or panties. No reason at all.
What do you think about tweens or young teens shopping at Victoria’s Secret?

ReplyDeleteLeave V's Secret for the grown women!! Although, I will say that I think they design half that stuff for bodies the size of a 12-year-old. :(
Very true, they do. It's all so tiny!
DeleteOh my gosh, you're so right. I think not only does it start girls off thinking of being provocative, it also affects their self confidence. How many of those girls walk out having compared themselves to the size 0, large chested women? I'm a grown woman and still do. On top of that, I think that young boys are affected by it as well. They see these images and I believe they get an idea of what the "ideal" woman should look like, which is few and far between. It sets these young tweens up for disillusionment. I don't think there's anything wrong with VS, I shop there myself (when I can afford it), but I'm a grown woman. And I agree with Wendy that their clothing is designed for not so average bodies!
ReplyDeleteI forgot about the boys! It does give them the idea that girls/woman should look so tiny and perfect. Oh and the 'average body'... I can not shop at VS and I am not *huge* but I am not super tiny either. Not right.
