Each Week Danielle from "Happenings of the Harper Household" and I (Danielle) will host this awesome meme and we would love for you to link up and join us.

There will be a question each week that will require you to decide where you stand regarding that topic, then of course share those thoughts with the world!

RULES:
1.) Please follow the hosts via Facebook: Danielle B. & Danielle H.
2.) If you link up please leave a comment so we can visit you.
3.) This is a meme, so you MUST answer the question in a blog post.
4.) Link directly to the blog post in which you answer the question.
5.) Grab the button and place either in your post or on your blog.
(You can find the html code in my right side bar).
6.) At the end of your post leave a suggestion for the following weeks topic.

If we choose your suggestion you will be mentioned and linked to in the following weeks post.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE:
Please respect each others opinions. This means no bashing of other bloggers in comments on their posts. Kind words and genuine questions are encouraged. If you strongly disagree with someone else the place to address your view point is in a post on your own blog. If we find that you have blatantly disregarded this you will be removed from the linky.

THIS WEEKS TOPIC
Televisions in Kids Bedrooms?
Yay or Nay?
What do YOU say?

MY OPINION?
Heck Yeah haha.
***BUT*** with limits.

I think it is fine to have a TV in kids bedrooms so they can lay down in bed and get comfy and relax a bit before bedtime. I just do not see an issue with it at all as long as there are limits placed.

This is my 15 year old son’s room below… excuse Miss Gracie jumping on his bed. She is not allowed in his room and since I was going in to take a photo, she thought it was so cool to get in there for a change :)

Teen Boys Room

I do think the TV needs to be turned off at the child’s bedtime and the TV should not be watched 24/7.

I have to say though, I did have a child who was afraid of the dark. He would have a really hard time sleeping alone (without me). I would put him to bed, but half way through the night he would end up in my room. Sometime he would crawl into bed with me and sometimes I would find him on the floor next to my bed. I ended up letting him keep his TV on all night long. Most of the time we kept it on our satellite Christian music station and set at a very low volume. With that on all night, he was able to sleep all night long with out being afraid. This lasted about two years and he grew out of the stage.

With my other kids, we let them have the TV, but turn it off at bedtime. I think it was a nice way for them to settle down at the end of the night.

  1. LOVE how your captured Miss Gracie mid-jump! :) I see your point, it's good to relax. I know too many kids though who's parents have let them get used to watching TV as they are going to sleep and now those kids won't go to sleep without TV! I personally prefer no TV in their room til they are older, but I understand your point too! :) Thanks for the debate this week! :)

Love that pic! I would have to say yes on a tv but it depends on the child as to when they should have it. Plus it makes a great thing to take away if they need to be punished. I have a 3-year-old and he does NOT have a TV.... we will see when he will get one when he is older

  3. I think I'd allow TVs in my kids bedrooms as long as they turned it off when it was time for bed!

  6. No way. It's just one more thing that can keep them cooped up in their rooms away from the rest of the family. I think it can also be a way for them to see shows we don't approve of because we're not going to be sitting IN their rooms monitoring every second of every day. I grew up with one in my room and it only helped my addiction to tv watching. We have two tvs. One in the family room, one in my bedroom. The one in my room is mostly for movies on DVD if I get around to watching them.

  7. I personally wouldn't allow tv's in my kids rooms. Maybe that is partially due to the fact that I only have small children now, but I love having everyone in the living room and all hanging out. I think I would miss that time, plus this way I can monitor what they are watching

  8. Nope. TV's are not good in anyone's room. I say this as a former TV addict who grew up watching as much TV as I wanted... Not only from personal experience do I say no but the science backs up that no.

Your brain has a harder time turning off if you watch TV ( or use the computer) right before bed time. You need to shut it off sonner and give you brain time to calm itself before trying to sleep. People often stay up much later when having a TV in their bedroom.

It just doesn't make for good sleep and lack of sleep or bad sleep habits is adding to a lot the health issues facing the country right now.

We have TVs in our kids rooms (well, TV in one and a projector in the other) but they are hooked up to sources that require a password to use. The Wii in our youngest boy's room is his source for movies and TV shows via Netflix, Hulu, etc. However, it is locked by a 4 digit pin that his brothers do not know. And our older boys have an HTPC, but it is password protected and only unlocked by an adult when they are being rewarded by a movie.
